Interview |
| |
How
did you go about training yourself to understand |
| |
the
perfume making process? |
| |
Designing
the perfume really came directly from my lifelong |
| |
interest
in perfume — and I love design, so it really
is a combination |
| |
of
these two things. I don't know how many perfumes I've smelled |
| |
over
the years, hundreds I'm sure. I have a library of books on |
| |
perfume,
and I've been avidly reading about perfume for many years, |
| |
so
my "education" had been ongoing. About five years ago I
began |
| |
seriously
to work, blending essential oils, thinking about my ideas, |
| |
and the profiles for my perfumes. |
| |
And
so you've been working on these for five years? |
| |
Yes,
about 3 years ago I was at the point where I wanted to take |
| |
my
ideas and refine them, to develop the final formulas. I admired |
| |
the work of the great Edmond Roudnitska, who is know in the |
| |
business as "the father of modern perfumery." I also appreciated
|
| |
the
perfumes created by his son Michel. The success of our |
| |
collaboration
comes from a great respect for the art of perfumery, |
| |
a
belief that quality is timeless and something that people always |
| |
respond
to. |
| |
Could
you say a bit about your philosophy regarding style and |
| |
beauty,
the role both have played in your life. |
| |
Like
many of us, I am drawn to people of passion and style.
|
| |
I
have found that people of great style always have an appreciation
for |
| |
beauty.
One follows the other....Woman of memorable style always |
| |
exude
this passion. And perfume speaks so much to the need for beauty |
| |
in
our lives....Perfume is so very compelling. It is never quite the
same, |
| |
it
is subtly different from woman to woman. I love making something |
| |
that
can offer this kind of enhancement to people, because I believe it
|
| |
is
what we all want, and what we need more of in our lives. |
